Recadio 2.0 - New Release 🎉
Recadio 2.0 brings license enforcement, keyboard shortcuts, device locking, Apple certificate signature, and many improvements. Here's everything that's new.
I'm excited to announce Recadio 2.0! This new release comes with many features requested by users for some time, as well as other improvements.
I'll go through the main updates below, but as a quick teaser, this new version is notarized by Apple, has the option to launch at login, and adds a new algorithm to auto-select devices based on priority that I think you'll love.
Recadio 2.0 will start requiring a license to automatically select devices
New Features
🔑 License Enforcement
As mentioned above, Recadio 2.0 now enforces licenses. I built Recadio for myself and decided to sell it as an experiment, so didn't spend the time to implement a proper license system. But with this new version, and as more people are using it, I decide it was time to add it.
If you've already bought Recadio, you should have received your license key via email with your purchase. Alternatively, you can go to your Gumroad library and click on Recadio to see your license key.
🎁 Free Trial
The good news is that there's now a free trial available, so anyone can test all the features for a week and see if it's a good fit for them.
🔏 Notarized by Apple
Recadio 2.0 is now notarized by Apple, which means it's been scanned and approved by Apple's automated security checks. This makes installation smoother and gives you peace of mind that the app is safe to use.
This is another feature that wasn't added from the beginning because I wanted to keep the app as simple as possible, as it was an experiment. But many people have requested this one since the first version, and I'm happy to finally add it.
Finally, no more scary messages when opening the app the first time!
⌨️ Keyboard Shortcuts for Power Users
Recadio now supports keyboard shortcuts, making it even faster than ever to switch between audio devices when you need it.
You can now open recadio with ⌥ + ⌘ + R by default, but you can change it in the settings.
Also, once Recadio is open you can press i or o, followed by the number of the device to select the input or output device respectively.
🏆 Auto-Select by Device Priority
In Recadio 2.0 you can set the order of devices in the settings, and Recadio will automatically select the device in the top position. I've been using this feature for some time while testing the app, and it's been working great.
Recadio previously assigned a preferred device for a given group of connected devices. This meant that you had to set a preferred device for any previously unseen group. For people with many devices, this was a pain.
Now you set the priority order once, and forget about it.
🔒 Device Locking
Sometimes you want to make sure a specific device stays selected, or momentarily override the priority order. The new device locking feature lets you lock a device in place, preventing Recadio or your Mac from selecting a different one.
This is perfect for situations where you are going to connect a bluetooth device with higher priority but want to keep the current output for a bit longer. Or when you are using your Mac's microphone but want to use the microphone from your bluetooth headphones to walk around during a call.
🚀 Launch at Login
This one was requested by many users, and it's finally here. You can now configure Recadio to launch automatically when you log in to your Mac. This ensures that Recadio is always running and ready to manage your audio devices, even after a restart.
✨ Other Improvements
Improved Duplicate Device Detection and Auto-Merge
This happens rarely, but some times your Mac assigns a new ID to an existing device, which caused Recadio to treat it as a new device. Now Recadio does a better job of detecting when the same device had a new ID, and treats it as the same device, giving you a seamless experience.
Allow Forgetting Devices
You can now forget devices from Recadio's device list. This is useful for cleaning up old or unused devices that you no longer need to see in the list. When a forgotten device is connected again, it will be added back to the list as a brand new device.
Scrollable Device List in Settings
If you have many audio devices, the settings window can get quite long, and some times even bigger than the screen. The device list is now scrollable, making it easier to manage all your devices even if you have dozens of them connected.
Visual Improvements
The entire interface has been polished with visual improvements throughout. I hope you like it.
🐛 Bug Fixes
Fixed Hidden Connected Devices When Starting Recadio
Fixed a bug where some connected devices could be hidden when Recadio started up. All connected devices should now be visible immediately.
Fixed Device List Shrinking Bug
Fixed a bug where the device list could shrink in some situations, making it imposible to manage your devices. The list now maintains its proper size consistently.
